The $600,000 Hybrid Posche 918

Edmonds.com -- "...An official statement released Wednesday said the company has received an "overwhelming response" from the public to the 918 Spyder concept. Earlier reports indicated Porsche had received expressions of interest from more than 900 buyers.

Porsche did not specify a production start-up date or a price tag, although widespread media reports in Europe have suggested the sticker could exceed $600,000.

Why worry about gas price cost when you buy this car?

uselessgas: or even a Chevy Volt and pocket about $565,000.

May not be getting 0 - 100 in <3 seconds, but then, there aren't many places even in the US where that is feasible. And where you could do it spacewise, the roads are not in good conditions or you get a ticket in a heartbeat.
Of course when you can afford 600k for a car, you can afford that $1,000 ticket plus a few hundred thousand bail money easily....

Look at me. I care about the earth, ... and I'm rich.

For $600K I could buy a gas station or two.

No one gives a gee-whiz about fuel savings when they're spending over a half mil for a car.

does overwhelming mean that 50 or 150 people out there said "yea, great idea?"

I can't fanthom that there are a lot more out there who could handle that much money for a vehicle..

There is no justification for a $600,000.00 price tag.

I'm sure if panama303 goes down to his local federal reserve bank and explains to them with a credit default swap and a Porsche 918 mortgage backed security they will give him the funds no problem.

At that price it has nothing to do with being green or looking for fuel savings. To me it is nothing more than showing off their wealth. I would put the money on something more worthwhile!

It's nice to have an option to buy an economical car like this that you don't have to spend all your money on gas.

What motivates people to buy a hybrid? For me, if the cost of the vehicle is right, I'd buy the hybrid for the cost savings in fuel over the life of the car. When the Porsche costs $600k, I'm not sure why someone would bother. I don't think most people are buying hybrids for the "green" factor.

Think of all the good things that you could help accomplish in your community with $600,000! If I had that kind of money to spend, it would not be on an automobile.

I'll never be able to own that car, and wouldn't even if I could, waste of money. All you need is a set of wheels to get you from point A to point B.
