Electric-vehicle drivers in Colorado to get a charge out of new law Read more: Electric-vehicle dri

denverpost.com -- For just $5,000, you too could own a filling station — selling not gas but electrons to anxious electric-vehicle drivers.

Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper backed the law as a way to spur entrepreneurs to install e-chargers at grocery stores, hotels, malls, cafes and other urban spots. It is part of a broadening "electric vehicle readiness" campaign aimed at cleaning metro Denver's ozone-prone air by shifting to battery-powered transport.

I like it - if it works, it might spur other states to allow the private sector to help build the infrastructure

This will fall apart when the big utilities and the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) gets involved.

“The article doesn't say anything about using $5000 of taxpayers money.”

Ummmmm, that’s probably because no taxpayer money is involved in this program.

I would not like to be riding around hunting for an outlet to plug my car into, especially with a few children in the car. There needs to be more of the electric outlets if we want these electric cars to come out in full force.

This is very good news. Having the infrastructure in place is going to make electric cars practical. There will be a day when charging stations will be commonplace.
