None. My Cornucopia which gets fuel from produce gets as good mileage as gasoline.

Do they even produce "pure" gas any longer? Every pump I have seen has the sticker on it claiming 10% ethanol content. Years back I used to try to avoid those pumps. Can't avoid them anymore.

1st off, the fuel station should have it on the pumps some place, if not you can ask the attendant of the percentage of ethanol. I have used every gas that was in my area, Toledo,Ohio area. GiantEagle for the longest time would brag about being 100% gas. now even they are at 10% ethanol. The best over all mpg's I have gotten has been using Shell gasoline, 87 octane. They use detergents and so forth to help keep mpg's up and your engine clean. I believe that at least for me and My '07' Dodge Caliber and my '09' Dodge Journey ran best on Shell gas. Caliber was a 2.0L 4, and Journey was 3.5L v6.

I have no way to determine the effect of ethanol - my mileage varies too much by type of driving and season ... besides I never know when I am getting 10% ethanol in my gas

We have to subsidize the people who supply ethanol, from the farmers to the dealers because someone in Congress has a buddy that started this all and is getting a kickback. With ethanol we get less miles per gallon resulting in more fuel being burned so how is this making the air cleaner? It isn't. This is mandated because certain people are making money off of it, not because of environmental concerns.

I'd have no clue where to get "pure" gas, as it's mandated E10 in Minnesota. However, I did notice that we always got 30+ mpg on trips to California, while still going 80 with the A/C on. Of course, it was all highway and I have a 4cyl/2ltr compact sedan.

tl;dr - Every station here has E10 so idk.

For toyrunner300, Ducky_NS, northlight, or any other Canadians who either don't know, or don't think they can buy e10 / ethanol, I was curious and got this reply from Shell Canada today:
"Shell Bronze gasoline contains up to 10%, Silver contains up to 5%, and V-Power does not contain any ethanol. This currently applies to all provinces and regions."

My Corolla was getting 38-42 MPG a few years ago, and since the E10 it has dropped to around 34MPG.

GasMonc: “This is a bad question because they've been using E10 in most of the pumps for at least 10 years.”

That may be true but why does that make it a bad question? Many drivers seek out pure gas and use it exclusively or as much as possible. While Detroit is within the EPA mandate area, there are stations outside of that area that still sell pure gas. Seek them out when you can and reap the benefits.

E10 is bad enough. I hope Congress doesn't stick to their plan to mandate E15 next year. Make sure you vote for candidates who oppose it!

Most pumps in my area, if they acknowledge the use of ethanol, have a sticker that says it MAY contain up to 10% ethanol. So you have no way of knowing exactly how much ethanol you're getting, if any. Plus the last two choices in this poll combine questions that have nothing to do with each other.

While ethanol burns cleaner than gasoline, it does not burn as efficiently. (It's not as combustible as gas)

Test show that we LOSE from 5 to 10% miles/gallon with 10% ethanol than we did with regular gasoline.

http://blog.gasbuddy.com/posts/Ethanol-content-in-gasoline-may-increase-update/1715-412760-328.aspx

I lose between 1 and 2 miles/gallon using E10

We use E-10 here all the time (Illinois).
About 5% max seems to be what I notice.
EPA's numbers suggest 10~20%.

I still dont understand why it burns more.
They must have it programmed to burn more when it senses ethanol.
They have programming for everything else in the car.

It has higher octane rating...
Our local Ayerco sells the regular without it at a higher price
than the plus with it.

"crusade" is full of it. There are no Dodge nitros that report a better than 20mpg average. http://www.fueleconomy.gov/mpg/MPG.do?action=browseList2&make=Dodge&model=Nitro%202WD

Why would anyone be so dense to still buy a gas guzzler when just 2 years ago gas prices were $4 and above?

I drive a 2009 Dodge Nitro.
Since moving back to Oregon in Dec of 2009 our mileage has dropped from 26mpg to 15mpg.
Everyone i know who owns a Dodge reports the roughly the same.
Including the local Dodge dealership!!!
E10 is hurting consumers.
I am sure there is some gain it tax revenues for the state( It's all about the Benjamins baby!!)but that doesn't do much to help our budgets.
We need to start a petition to remove the E10 law in Oregon.
Unless you want consumers to spend more and pollute more to appease the enviromental lobby.

It is always nice when driving to Montana from Minnesota to hit North Dakota. You can buy pure gas there and watch your mileage increase 10 - 11%.

When the 10% blend was winter only here in Minnesota, you could track a change in mpg that matched the switch over from 10% blend to pure. But now they made it year round 10% blend by law, so mileage suffers all the time.

They argue that it is a pollution reducing move by adding an oxygenate to the fuel (ethanol), but with computer controlled fuel injected cars, the O2 sensor detects the greater % of O2 in the exhaust and richens up the fuel injected into the cylinder to burn that "excess" oxygen, decreasing mileage.

Since July 1, 2007 the mandatory blend in Brazil is 25% of anhydrous ethanol and 75% gasoline or E25 blend.

Bio-diesel is the way to go then you don't have to worry about it!

By the way in the 70's we used to buy bottles of ethanol to add to the gas to improve performance and gas mileage and many people still buy little cans of it, under different brand names, to clean out the carb and injectors and remove the moisture in the gas tank. People would swear it was the best thing going...

rayk: “only off road has no ethanol in MN.”

Why do you think that Ray? Minnesota does not require labeling of ethanol content on gas pumps so there is no way you can tell it is there without testing for it unless you can smell it.   Pure-gas.org lists about 50 E0 stations in MN and their lists are typically far from complete.

Michigan does not require labeling of ethanol content on gas pumps so there is no way you can tell it is there without testing for it unless you can smell it.   Pure-gas.org lists only a couple of E0 stations in MI, though their lists are typically far from complete.

“When was the last time any gas station sold pure gas? I believe it was in the 70's or 80's.”

My word, Dungeon, do you really believe that? Ethanol use had barely started at that time and the mandate came later and only in parts of the US. I use pure gas exclusively and can buy it at many stations in this area.

I just know that my Ford Focus is supposed to get up to 34 miles to a gallon. Is that gasoline or ethanol? I only get 17 to 23 miles to a gallon using gasoline blended with Ethanol and that's city & highway. I don't know where I can buy pure gasoline.

Where we live, the gas stations may include up to 10% ethanol, so it is hard to tell. In the past when we used it and knew it was in there, there didn't seem to be a difference.
