Great Lakes prices dogged by refining malfunctions, issues

GasBuddy Blog -- The Great Lakes is poised to get a bump up in prices, similar in reason to what happened on the West Coast earlier this year as multiple refineries report issues in the region.

Great Lakes region saw prices for immediate gasoline delivery jump 10-cents per gallon early Monday morning and are the highest in the nation, beating out the West Coast for the dubious title of "most expensive wholesale gasoline prices" in the nation.

This coming on the heels of reports of a downed coker at BP's massive Northwest Indiana refinery, and weekend reports of issues at Citgo's Lemont, IL refinery, as well as Phillips 66's refinery in Wood River, IL. Combined, these facilities have the capacity to refine nearly one million barrels of crude...

Prices are going to jump again, tomorrow or Thursday. Greedway just can't resist. Expect another 10-20 cent jump.

Obama can fix this! All he has to do is raise the federal taxes on gasoline which will for the industry to find alternatives! It will work, and it won't hurt Americans at all!

This is the most predictable thing in history. We should build in enough spare capacity elsewhere such that issues at one refinery don't cause a supply disruption.

All refineries report issues at any time because that's the way big oil & our greedy & corrupt government wants it.

Big Oil will raise fuel prices if they want to and/or will have a refinery undergo 'unplanned maintenance' when they want to. There is nothing you can do, Big oil will maintain its profits without regard to your well being or your possible economic problems.
Lets hear the rude comments about it being the Great Lakes region for the high fuel prices or many of the other similar rude comments thrown at the West Coast for their high gas prices but directed to the Great Lakes region!
If you have a Diesel vehicle, making your own Bio Diesel by using Waste Vegetable Oil (WVO) from local restaurants may be an option. IF you can get that waste vegetable oil to process, there may be some high local demand for it.
Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Consider using other forms of less expensive transportation to lower your cost.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

I'm with Inbwanna...need more refineries but region (including Canada) is getting less (3 shut in 2 yrs in Eastern Cda). This along with pipes from the west to give discounted WTI priced crude (like northwest US) instead of Brent prices crude. Naturally, less speculation would be huge too accross the board.

Our gas went from $3.33 to $3.75 in many places in 4 hours. There is no reason for it to jump like that. We need to build more refineries.
